What is EFT? An Introduction to Emotionally Focused Therapy

Emotionally Focused Therapy, founded by Drs. Sue Johnson and Les Greenberg, is a short-term, structured therapy that addresses distress within couples and families that arise from a perceived threat of the loss of safety, security, and closeness in intimate relationships. EFT helps couples to understand the negative interactions that leave them feeling distant, hurt or angry, to change the couple's responses that maintain their old patterns, and to develop the ability to connect more deeply. This workshop will include an overview of attachment theory as the framework around the EFT map, steps and stages of EFT, contraindications and video presentations.
Shelly Dell is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Mental Health Counselor, and certified EFT therapist and supervisor. In addition to providing individual and group supervision in EFT throughout the East Coast, she maintains a private practice in Scituate, MA.
